The Law of Kindness

This week we are giving away a free copy of  The Law of Kindness by Mary Beeke.  Here’s what the back of the book says:

“And be ye kind one to another,” begins Ephesians 4:32. Christians are called to this standard, but how seriously do we take it? In “The Law of Kindness,” Mary Beeke examines the idea of kindness, shows how it is developed, and gives helpful advice for putting it into action, with specific chapters addressed to wives, husbands, parents, teachers, and children. Readers will be struck by their own lack of kindness, captivated by God’s kindness toward us in Jesus Christ, and motivated to cultivate more of this precious virtue.

On a related note, I’d like to encourage you to hop over to Jeannett’e blog, Sparrow’s Rest, and read her post, Uprooting Anger. She recommends a book over there that looks excellent.  I know that I am definitely in need of help in that area, and I think it is a pit that most of us women fall into from time to time, especially with the challenges of raising children.

To enter our giveaway just leave a comment letting us know why you would enjoy reading this book!

This will be our last Tuesday’s Treasure for three weeks as our family of 10…including a 1 and 3 year old which is quite an important piece of trivia if you really stop and think about it…is planning to take a road trip, with a pop up camper, out west to visit relatives in Idaho and California.  (Did you see how many prepositions I worked into that sentence???  Not bad.)

I plan to do some therapeutic blogging along the way since camping is NOT my forte.  Every camping “adventure” I’ve been on has been a total nightmare…either weather wise or health wise…so I’m not expecting great things.  If you are a camping lover, you might enjoy some laughs at my expense.  And if you you’re like me and would rather have a root canal than camp, you might have a morbid fascination in finding out if my sanity holds out from day to day.  If I get internet access periodically, (and I’m somewhat doubtful about this…most of our camp sites don’t even have showers…eeeek…) I will try to post pictures and spin a little survival story for you.  (Hmmm…maybe I should bring a copy of Uprooting Anger with me…)

Got any camping tips?  I’m all ears.

I would very much like to read this book. Minding my tongue and being kind to others are constant struggles for most Christians I know, and it’s an issue I’ve been particularly mindful of lately.

I’m not much of a camper, so no tips, but I hope your trip goes well!

    • Wemmick Girl Saved by Grace says:

Thanks Amy! Any prayers you want to shoot up on my behalf would be most welcome. This is one of those sort of ridiculous-in-the-big-scheme-of-things “trials”…nevertheless…it is a “trial” for my personality type. ; ) I really want to be a blessing to my family instead of a pill. That’s gonna take some grace from God.
      Have a great week!

  2. Raeleen says:

My summer makeover is my to have a heart of gratitude as well as a tongue of kindness. I have just started reading Carol Lewis’ book “A Thankful Heart” and really do believe that “The Law of Kindness” would be a great addition to this makeover (will definitely checkout “Uprooting Anger” as well!) As for camping tips? We spent my husbands sabbatical camping all over the west two years ago, and all I can say is try to enjoy it :-) It can definitely be a wearying experience, but the memories are ones that will last a lifetime! Many Blessings for a wonderful time!

    • Wemmick Girl Saved by Grace says:

THANK YOU for the words of encouragement Raeleen. Especially coming from one who “knows”. : ) And I love your “summer makeover” idea…it’s beautiful, and I’m so inspired by that! I want that to be my goal for this trip. I’ve been praying for safety, health, etc. but I’m going to add the “heart of gratitude” and “tongue of kindness” to my fervent prayers as well. May God be pleased to pour out His grace on both of us as we cry out to Him for aid in these areas this summer. You’ve blessed my heart!

  5. Erica says:

Oh, how often my tongue spews forth anything but kindness, especially to my husband and children. Oh, do I continually need God’s grace. This book would be just the thing to get me moving in the right direction.

Yes, I will be praying for you!

  6. Hannah B. says:

I would love to read this book. I need encouragement in this area, because, as a child of God, if I am not showing others kindness, I am not showing His love. I think that this book would be a great encouragement to me.
Thank you for the chance to enter.

  7. Hannah S. says:

Wow! This looks like just the book my family and I would love to read. I think we really under estimate how powerful our tongues and actions really are. I would very much like to read this book. Thank you for offering this give away.

I am new to this site, but what I have seen so far has been encouraging and thought provoking. The young women of our generation are desperately in need of strength and guidance. Thank you for taking the time to write your thoughts and wisdom.

  8. Dina says:

The Lord has showed me that I need to be a more gentle and cheerful mother. Unfortunately, that does not always come easy for me. This book sounds like a good encouragement in that area.
May you have a blessed, peaceful, joyful and restful trip. :)
