Touched By Greatness: Women in the Life of Moses

This week I am giving away a copy of the newly released, Touched by Greatness: Women in the Life of Moses by Dorothy Kelley Patterson.

Touched by Greatness packs oodles of intriguing information into a small book!  Have you ever wondered who raised Moses?  I mean, seriously…the real, live princess of Egypt…in history…who brought him up as her own son?  Or what about the wife of Moses?  Where did she come from?  What was it like to be married to Moses?  How about the midwives who risked their own lives to save him at birth?  I’ll admit that I often read through these Bible stories I’ve heard a gazillion times and think, “yada yada yada…” and don’t really stop to consider these characters as real, living people in history with serious flaws, strengths, fears, and grit.

Patterson goes into a lot of interesting detail as she weaves the fascinating story behind each  woman whose life intersected the life of Moses.  In addition, she provides  the reader with tools to take their study even deeper should they choose to do so.  The reader is able to find out facts about each woman such as:

  • Their unique characteristics
  • Their spiritual gifts
  • Their descendants
  • The dates of their births, marriages, children and deaths
  • Proper pronunciations of their names…and more!

Exegetical notes, parallel references, a teaching outline, applicable quotations, related illustrations and inductive questions round out this thorough study of the women God used in the life of Moses.  She concludes each chapter with sage advice for women as well as a exciting summary of God’s scarlet thread of redemption in history.

Being visionary means being able to see God at work in history in the lives of ordinary men and women.  This little book will aid women who desire to have a more full-orbed perspective of some of the women God used to influence one of the greatest leaders this world has ever known.

And perhaps it will inspire us to get a clearer vision for how God is using us…in our own time and place in history!

Would you like to win a copy of this book? All you need to do is leave a comment!

Would you like to enter twice? Let a friend know about Tuesday’s Treasure and encourage them to enter!  If they do…leave a reply letting me know that you sent them!

I hope you win!

It is really hard for me to wrap my feeble, finite brain around the fact that these events in the Bible actually happened- that they’re about real people, real places. This sounds interesting!

I recently read a wonderful book on this same topic from a Jewish point of view–”Moses’ Women” by Shera Tuchman and Sandra Rapaport. It’s great to see that there’s now a Christian book on this subject.
