Thoughts for Young Men!

Thoughts for Young Men by R.C Ryle is one of my TOP picks for…well…young men!!  I read this book to my boys when they were in their pre-teen years…and it really is a treasure!  Ryle writes in an easy-t0-understand style, even though he lived in the 1800s, and pointedly picks out all the critical challenges that male youth face as they enter these life-changing years of decision making on their own.

Again and again he lovingly motivates and inspires young men to seek hard after the things that count, namely, Jesus Christ and His Kingdom, and emphatically warns them against all the things that threaten to trip them up in this pursuit…and the inevitable consequences to their lives should they choose a foolish route.

I love this book. It’s one of those little treasures that really ought to be read by every single Christian boy at some point in their discipleship process.  I’m pleased to be able to offer a copy to one of my readers!

There are three ways you can enter:

1. Leave a comment letting us know if you have a recommendation of a book that is geared especially for boys! It can be a book for boys of ANY age….but the focus is BOYS this week!  If you do not have boys, or if you just want to get ideas from other readers, then leave a comment saying that!  (Or anything else you want to share!)  The point is…your comment, whatever it may be, gets you entered into the give away!

2. Would you like to be entered twice? If you haven’t “liked” Visionary Womanhood yet, go to the sidebar and click the “like” button!  It is a brand new Facebook page, and I’d “like” to get that going on a roll!  You can help!  Once you’ve done that, leave another comment saying you did!  (For this give away, you can leave a comment if you did that since we started up a couple weeks ago!  Just leave a comment!)

3. Want a third entry? Grab the code from the Tuesday’s Treasure button and post in on your blog or Facebook to spread the word! Then leave a third comment saying you did it!

Why all the comments?  The comment numbers get entered into an online randomizer where one is randomly selected as the winner!  The comment associated with that number wins the treasure!  Make sense?

I hope you win!

Right now Noah, age 5, loves the Hero Tales series and Building on the Rock. While they aren’t strictly boy at all, I think they appeal to his God given sense of adventure. He loves hearing how God “saved the day” and uses everything for His good!

    • Wemmick Girl Saved by Grace says:

Thank you Sara for recommending those series! We love those over here too!

A good one I picked up awhile back through Vision Forum is “How to be a Man” by Harvey Newcomb. So rich in great practical advice.

Hi Jennifer! We don’t have that one! I’m going to check into it. I’m always scouting for good things for my boys. Thank you for taking the time to recommend it!

This might be old news to some, but _The Dangerous Book for Boys_ by C. and H. Igguldon is good.

I’m not a mother or wife but I do have six brothers, and my 14 year old brother voted for “Boys of Grit~ Men of Honor”
and the younger ones really like the Building on the Rock Series

    • Wemmick Girl Saved by Grace says:

Rebecca! I’m so pleased you found VW! I’m hoping to have a lot more in the future for young ladies like yourself! And THANK YOU for sharing your brothers’ recommendations and posting the button! I saw your blog and it is so peaceful and lovely! Having 6 brothers will surely help you in preparing to know and understand a husband one day. I had two sisters…and had to learn about “boys” cold turkey when I got married. ; ) Blessings to you!

I love the new book “The Boy Who Changed the World.”. It shows how one persons actions can affect many. I have 3 boys so I think this book would be fantastic to win!

    • Wemmick Girl Saved by Grace says:

Thank you for participating Nicole! Is that book a Lamplighter book…or is it a new one in the series with the same name? I don’t think I’ve heard of it…but it sounds great!
