The Sacred-Secular Split

One of the most eye-opening books I have ever read is Nancy Pearcey’s Total Truth.  If there is one book I would recommend to every single Christian in America today, this would be it.  She brilliantly analyzes our culture’s root problem with surgical precision.  For those of you taking the “Book Challenge” for January-March and reading the book Assumptions That Affect our Lives, by Christian Overman,  you might be interested in the following brief video clip where Overman interviews Pearcey on the Sacred-Secular Split concept that they both dissect in their books.

I think this phenomena is fascinating to study, and I encourage you to learn a little bit about it and see if you can detect the Sacred-Secular Split at work in your own personal thinking and decision making.

Is there a “secular” world?  How would you answer that question?  Write down your answer…and then watch this next clip!

If this fascinates you, and you’d like to learn more about how this kind of thinking affects our lives, I hope you’ll take the Book Challenge for January-March and read Assumptions that Affect our Lives.   On Monday we will announce our drawing winner for December who will win a copy of this thought-provoking (and possibly life-changing) book.

  1. I’ve got this book in my “to be read” pile. Very interesting (but scary) stuff! Just in the past ten years, I’ve seen more of a secular/sacred split taking hold all over this country and I think a lot of people are just drifting along with it without being aware of what is happening.
